Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering (formerly School of Engineering) was established in November 2006 as a statutory requirement of the Institution. Its mandate is to provide leadership, policy direction and coordinate activities of the various departments under its directive to achieve the Institutional objectives in teaching and learning as well as in research work.

Vision

"We envisage becoming the best in innovation and excellent in Technical Education and Training."

Mission

"The Faculty of Engineering is devoted to providing quality engineering competence in the areas of Agriculture, Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical/Electronic Engineering to meet the middle level manpower needs for poverty reduction and national development"

Departments

Agricultural Engineering

The Department of Agricultural Engineering was accredited in 2003 to run a three-year Higher National Diploma (HND) programme with three specialised options: Soil and Water Engineering, Postharvest Technology and Agricultural Mechanisation. In 2006, the department adopted the Competency-Based Training/Learning (CBT/CBL) methodology in teaching delivery to provide employable skills and competencies needed for industry and commerce. In 2022, the department mounted both four-year and two-year Bachelor of Technology in Agricultural Engineering Programmes.

Civil Engineering

The Civil Engineering industry is an essential prerequisite for the socio-economic advancement of a developing country such as Ghana. As such, personnel in this industry need to identify with apt principles, practical skills, and knowledge, given that health, safety, aesthetics, and ergonomics are critical in the industry. The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the Academic Departments of the Faculty of Engineering, established in the 2006/2007 academic year, as the fifth accredited programme of the University. The mandate is to offer hands-on world- class training of management and supervisory personnel to provide the needed supervisory role to link theory and practice to support planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of systems to maintain and improve industrialisation and socio-economic advancement of Ghana.

Electrical and Electronics Engineering

The Department of Electricals/Electronics Engineering is one of the youngest Department in Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University. The Department from the start has tried in various ways to work in accordance to the mandate of the University. The department aims at training highly qualified personnel to attain a Higher National diploma (HND) with the requisite knowledge and practical skills for managerial, supervisory and Technical support positions in the field of Electrical/Electronics, Medical Technology and the Telecommunications. Organizations such as VRA, GRIDCo, NEDCo, ECG, Hospitals, Electrical Engineering Service Contractors, Electrical/Electronic Business owners, Telecommunication Industry present in the region and beyond, require middle manpower personnel to effectively manage these organizations and the department would provide well trained and industry driven personnel to offer this needed support.

Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering Department has been in existence since 2008, following its accreditation to offer a Three-year Higher National Diploma (HND) programme. In 2022, the Department received additional accreditation to run a Four-year Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Mechanical Engineering alongside the existing HND programme. Since then, the Department has made concerted efforts to align its operations with the mandate of the University. Its primary objective is to train mechanical engineers who can meet the growing demand for middle-level technical manpower in the country. These engineers are expected to contribute to the development, production, and manufacturing of equipment essential to various industries and the labour market. The Department also plays a critical role in alleviating the workload of engineers within the Upper West Region and beyond. Through design, analysis, and innovation, Mechanical Engineers trained by the Department are well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to the realisation of the Government of Ghana’s industrial and developmental vision.
